400m Pool Swim - 20km Bike - 5km Run
Brigg Sprint Triathlon - Organised and Run by LINCSQUAD
The event consists of a 400 metre pool swim in the Ancholme Leisure Centre's 25 metre pool followed by a 20km road cycle and finishing with a 5km road run. The Brigg Sprint Triathlon has been well recieved by the local community, businesses and a team of volunteers. This will be the first year we have staged an event and we hope to make it a regular calendar event.
Swim
The swim takes place in the swimming pool, the pool is divided into five lanes and competitors will be set off in order of ability and waves of five at two minute intervals. The competitor will swim in a clockwise rotation in the lane staying to the left hand side. You will be responsible for counting your own lengths, however each lane will have a lane counter that you can ask how many you have to go. You can use any stroke to complete the swim. A coloured swim cap will be provided to help the lane counters. Once you will have completed your swim you will then exit the pool to the transition area.
Transition Area
The Transition Area for the cycle is located in the All Weather Pitch next to the Leisure Centre entrance. The area is secure and only competitors are allowed in this area with their race numbers.
Bike
You will collect your bike from the transition area (making sure you have put your helmet on prior to touching your bike) and then push your bike to the mount / dismount line, before getting on. The cycle exits the leisure centre and turns left. Please make sure you look right to check for traffic. You then head out towards Redbourne Roundabout and then make the return along the same route. There is a level crossing and if this does stop you there will be a time marshall there to record your lost time and this will be subtracted from your overall time. On returning to Brigg you head all the way down to the roundabout at Tesco's before returning to the Leisure Centre. This ensures that you do not have to make a right turn across traffic. Please remember while we provide marhsal's it is still your responsibility to observe the Highway Code.
Run
The run will be a 2 lap 5km run which again heads out of the Leisure Centre and turns left, heads to Silverside Close and down to the end to where the road turns into a trail for approx 300m. You will then see some highly visible yellow and black bollards where you will make your turn and head back to the leisure centre to complete your first lap, you then head out again for a secon lap. Your numbers will be recorded at the turn point. Then you head for the finsih.
Please show respect for all marshals as they are volunteers and without them it would not be possible for the event to take place, a simple thank you post race is very much appreciated. If you would like to get involved as a volunteer then please drop us a line.
