North Lincs Adventure Challenge Results

Sunday the 29th May saw competitors arrive from all over UK to compete in the 10th Annual North Lincs Adventure Challenge. North Lincs Adventure Challenge is an adventure race which is run annually on the bank holiday weekend towards the end of May. There are three disciplines consisting of: a 36 kilometre cycle race on the roads around Brigg, two laps in a canoe or kayak around the Brigg ‘Island’ and a 10K trail run finishing in Brigg Market Place. The day look set to see some rain, however a hellish wind ensured it stayed dry for the most part.

The Race started with the 36 kilometre bike leg with all competitors setting of at 1 minute intervals. Last years winner Steve Clark setting off with the pressure of having the No.1 on his back posted a blistering 52:35, so the race was on. The wind seemed to blow from all directions except from behind!

The kayak leg saw Josh Hook post a brilliant 50:28 followed by newcomer Ian Smith with a blistering 51:23 only beaton by Andy Grimwood who was competing in a team with a 48:04.

On to the run and it was now between Steve Clark and Matt Stephenson for the overall honors. Steve had the advantage and Matt was running like a Steam Train to try and make up lost ground, eventually posting a wicked 38:53. This was not enough to make up the defecit on Senor Clark and Steve took the top spot for the third year in a row missing out on the course record by only a minute.

Peter Chappill and Andy Yeadon received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” for having competed in all 10 of the Adventure Challenge Races.

The days racing was a success and ran smoothly thanks to Andy Veitch who has taken over as Race Director after many great years at the hands of Ken Collier. A big thank you to everyone that helped organise, marshall, registrations, goody bags and support the race. See you next year.
