2012 Open Time Trials with the CTT

hinchy_tt

As well as our own club ‘Time Trials’ which start on the 11th April 2012 (Dave Hinch will provide more details shortly), there are also open events that you can enter as long as you are a member of a CTT affiliated club such as Lincsquad.

Time trialling is the simplest of competitive formats: a race against the clock, with riders starting a minute apart. It’s known as the ‘race of truth’ because there’s nowhere to hide, no one to draft behind; just you and the bike and the thumping of your heart. Oh, and a clock ticking.

Most events are fixed distance, being 10,25,50 or 100 miles. There are also fixed time events -12 and 24 hours -with the objective being to ride the furthest you can. Courses are on public roads and are either’out and back’, using a roundabout to turn halfway, or circuits with consecutive left turns.

Mark Dyer has kindly put together a list of some of the events in Lincolnshire below.

The Paul Kirk North Lincs’ CycloSportive

Derby 2 Pembroke Charity Cycle Ride

The sportive is basically a long training ride with the useful addition of a map and directions. The ride will set off from the Ancholme Leisure Centre at 8am and riders will be able to choose whether they do the full 100 miles or cut the route short to 100 km when they reach Market Rasen at the 46 mile mark. The ride is limited to 500 so secure your place now for just £15 before the 29th March 2012 (£20 on the day). There will be a cut off time for the 100 miler.

The sportive is now in memory of Paul Kirk who took part in the event with his daughter in 2011 and sadly suffered a fatal heart attack while halfway through the ride. The family would also like the event to continue in aid of Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice offers very special care for people in the North Lincolnshire area living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease. Every year hundreds of patients and their loved ones benefit from the care and support that they provide free of charge.

There are facilities at the Leisure Centre where you can get changed and have a shower.

Winter Club Runs on Sunday Mornings

winter_club_runs

It’s that time of year again when the racing has come to an end and the training once again begins for next year.

So it’s time once again to bring back the Sunday Club run from the Ancholme Leisure Centre. The rides will vary depending upon who turns up and the weather, as always nobody gets left behind. So what’s your excuse?

Meeting Every Sunday (Ancholme Leisure Centre, Brigg) at 8:45am and setting off at 9:00am.

For those not familiar with the Sunday morning club run it is a steady training ride with a view to building up to higher mileages for the early spring/late winter.

Ride EssentialsFor the comfort of your fellow riders you should ideally fit mudgaurds and ensure you carry spare innertubes, pump and ideally a mobile just in case. Helmets are compulsory as with all Lincsquad group rides, however you don’t have to be a club member.

Jeff Chappell is also running some novice rides from Scunthorpe which range in mileage and an excellent introduction to group riding if you are new to cycling.

If you have any questions then please feel free to comment below.

Lincsquad Time Trial 17th Aug 2011

ttlogo

Great weather for tonight’s Time Trial with 41 competitors turning up, 9 of which were new to our Time Trials, thats now 110 competitors this year, a big step forward on the 80 that took part last year, which again was a big step forward from the previous year, thank you for supporting the Time Trials.

Special mention to Chris Spavin who is the only person to have attended every Time Trial this year.

Well, a night of Personal Best’s with 20 in all and a new Lincsquad course record by Robbie Whitaker of 20:49, just 2 seconds of the allcomers course record.

Tonights Time Trial results and series standings can be found by clicking here

Personal Bests were recorded by;

  • - Robbie Whitaker 20:49
  • - Steve Grocock 21:18
  • - Duncan Wright 21:47
  • - Chris Spavin 22:19
  • - Steve Rhodes 22:22
  • - Phil Binch 22:26
  • - Andy Veitch 23:06
  • - Paul Carvill 23:29
  • - Jeff Chappill 24:27
  • - Paul Ralph 24:37
  • - Ric Longcake 24:06
  • - Chris Gibbs 24:59
  • - Gav Mann 25:37
  • - Sheehan Quirke 25:45
  • - Kev Fish 25:40
  • - Rob Jaques 25:59
  • - Ed Bark 27:41
  • - Emma Philips 28:38
  • - Nicky Robinson 28:11
  • - Dave Scott 29:27

Chris Spavin, Phil Binch & Ric Longcake have all had 6 PB’s this season, can any of them match last year’s record by Andy Veitch of 7 Personal Best’s in a season?

Just the one Time Trial to go on 31st August but there is still opportunity to move up in the Lincsquad Series, remember you need to complete 6 Time Trials to complete the series, awards will be issued at the annual Lincsquad Awards night for series winners/ runners up in both the mens & ladies series as well as some awards for most improved from last year and most improved over this season, so still lots to play for.

Good Friday Night Ride

night_cycle

On Good Friday at 10pm seven Lincsquad members headed off from Brigg for a night cycle. Instinctively  the group headed off to the Humber Bridge via Elsham and down the A15. The pace soon picked up and we were going through and off at nearly 40mph when I clashed with Dunc coming round the outside to overtake everyone, however somehow we managed to remain upright!!

We stopped on the Humber Bridge to decide on the route for the evening and after a short discussion it was decided to head towards Spurn Point again.

The pace eased as we discovered the wonderful sights and sounds of both Hessle and Hull with everything from cheers, claps and the silky white bottom of a female flasher who some might describe as a 13 pinter!

Once we left the razzle dazzle of Hull the pace soon started to pick up again with each village sign being aggressively fought over. Even the odd long distant solo breaks to ensure victory and the odd distraction techniques that any cold war spy would be proud of!

We stopped for a quick refuel at Easington and nearly called into the local pub, the Marquis Of Granby for a swift half. Nearly! That is if we had been local maybe!!! It was 2am!

So back we headed towards Withernsea with the brisky and risky pace soon returning all the way back to Hull. In the distance near to Hull the bright lights of a BP garage beckoned with the promise of a hot cuppa…. NO!!!! it was shut…
On we rode with yet another garage in sight, this time success and coffees all round. Stenno even treated us all to some cookies, what more do you need.

Then the final stint and off for the Humber Bridge we headed with a “not so shortcut” being taken by me and losing everybody!!! Mr Binch gave me a call on the moby and advised me off my error and said I best get my head down as they were already on the bridge… BUGGER!!

Once off the bridge it was yet another hard session with the group splintering all over the shot and then coming back together again at the turn on the A15 for Wrawby.

Flying down Elsham hill we were greeted with the sight of five cyclists heading up the hill, and the time 3:45am! So we are not the only nutters!!!

“BADGER!” was the scream, WTF!!!! Was it dead, alive??? Was that a speedhump?

Only a mile to go, yes just one mile!!!

CRASH!!! WTF!!!, me and Dunc turned to see Dobber skittling his way down the cyclepath having not seen the kurb sticking out in the middle!!! Ouch Ouch…… then we saw Mr Hinch do a technical dismount that any Olympic Gymnast would be proud of, however he got the last bit wrong and instead of landing on his two feet with his hands outstretched he broke his fall with his head & shoulders (no not the shampoo!).

The shine was taken off the evening a little but both Dobber and Hinchy rode the final mile and hopefully their bruising wont last too long.

So thanks guys, it was Epic

Snow hits Humberside

snow003

Humberside Police are experiencing significant calls for service due to the weather as are our partner agencies. We are asking the public to consider whether calls are essential before ringing and also to expect an increased response time.

As the bad weather continued across the region Humberside Police are still advising motorists to take extra care and drive according to the weather conditions.

The weather has left a number of roads across our region difficult to drive on and in some places poor visibility.

Rural roads have been particularly affected especially in the North Lincolnshire area. People are urged to travel only if it is essential.

The message being sent out today is that if you dont have to travel then don’t and please take care even if you are walking to your destination.

There have been no reports of any major incidents this morning, however the roads in the area that are causing some issues are:

The Humber Bridge was closed earlier but has now reopened with a 30mph speed limit.

The River Ancholme has all but disappeared!, Brigg has never seen such weather!!

And there is more to come……
