In addition to the Club Time Trials organised, other events are on the cards for this year with the possibility of a LINCSQUAD Road Race and, next year, we will have a LINCSQUAD Open (National) Time Trial event (in addition to our normal club events).
I’m hoping these events will be beneficial for club members i.e. additional training, fun...... as I know the bike side of Quadrathlon can be daunting - You should see the fear in my eyes when you shake a kayak, goggles and running shoes at me!!
I believe, as has already been suggested, that these types of events are only successful if they are fully supported by both competitors and volunteers. Volunteers are essential!! We need, a rotated, group of club members (or relatives, friends..etc..) to take on important organisation roles such as route manager, Signing On official, time keeper, marshals and post race refreshment official!! So if you or anybody you know is interested please let me know on oglesville@lincsquad.co.uk or oglesville@yahoo.com .
As well as the Time Trials the club has affiliated to the British Cycling Federation (BCF). One of the benefits of affiliation is the ability to work towards Go-Ride status as a club (i.e. Clubmark). I am about to fill in the Go-Ride form (and attend a National Go-Ride conference in Leeds on the 9th) but I need two volunteers to take on roles as Club Go-Ride Contact and Go-Ride Welfare Officer (includes free BCF training) before I can send it off, if you are interested let me know. As part of attaining Go-Ride status the club has to be able to show that it is actively organising regular coaching activities for youth and junior riders – I have already been and will be able to run Road and Time Trial coaching sessions at SUFC Glanford Park. I already have permission and the stadium manager and the club are happy for this to continue in the future so therefore I have been presumptuous and taken on the Club Go-Ride Coach role. I will be having a meeting with the local School Sports Development Managers within the next two weeks to discuss the possibility of a joint LINCSQUAD National Lottery Awards for All bid to purchase bikes + other sports equipment, storage facilities (located @ Glanford Park and Brigg Leisure Centre?) and funding for future coaching courses for club members. So please get involved if you are interested - it could be interesting times ahead!!!
